On April 20, 2015, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif attended in Islamabad the inauguration ceremonies of several bilateral cooperation projects, including China's terrestrial digital TV standard DTMB landing project in Pakistan, the first in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
 

Pakistan, one of the countries along the Belt and Road routes, is characterized by huge mountains, immense deserts and varied climate. A few years ago, Pakistan's national television increased its research into digital television standards. At that time, the ITU had recognized only four standards worldwide: ATSC of the U.S., DVB-T/T2 of Europe, ISDB of Japan, and DTMB/DTMB-A of China. During the test phase, Pakistan was extremely impressed by the Chinese standard, whose potential exceeded all expectations, and therefore preferred DTMB above all the four available standards.
 

Under the strong support and promotion from the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Commerce and other relevant governmental departments, DTVNEL(Beijing) and ZTE, Tsinghua University worked together to make Pakistan finally choose China's DTMB standard."
 

China's DTMB standard is one of the international standards for digital television approved by ITU worldwide, which is in parallel with  American ATSC standard, European DVB-T/T2 standard and Japanese ISDB standard. As a new generation of information technology standard with independent intellectual property rights in China, DTMB standard has a positive and far-reaching significance in the international market.
 

With a population of nearly 200 million, television plays an important role in the daily lives of Pakistanis. Promoting the implementation of DTMB standard in Pakistan is conducive to strengthening Pakistan's media communication and improving the quality of life for Pakistani people. At the same time, DTMB landing project is the carrier of cultural communication. In the future, the further cooperation between China and Pakistan will spread Chinese culture in the local area, enhancing the mutual understanding between the two country's peoples and deepening the traditional friendship between the two countries.
